As I first reported several months ago, I am now confirming that the Napoleon Pro665rsib will not only be going up in price, but it will be increasing 25% from $3899 to $5199. Wow.
This exponential increase is partially due to the tariffs that have been levied on Canada, but they are also born from significant upcoming changes to the grill. More on that below...
I was shown preliminary renderings of the grill several months ago (when the change was still being mulled over by Napoleon) and I didn't like what I saw. I can now report that I have seen the actual grill, built and lit up and I still don't like the way it looks. I cannot share the photo but trust me that the current Pro665 wins on aesthetics.
The new grill is very heavy looking, eschewing the bottom doors for 6 drawers which are asymmetrical. Its very heavy and industrial look made me think..."hot dog cart".
The left wing which is the current home of the infrared sear burner now has what looks like an iPad embedded in the front to control the "connected/smart grill" functionality. I am far from a Luddite but if there is one place where I don't want any tech, it's my grill. Do you think these digital components are going to hold up outside? How is that Twin Eagle $10k Pellet Grill doing? Napoleon has apparently conducted their research and decided that the market is calling for this capability. I emphatically disagree and will point to their P500 Prestige series as proof - Napoleon offers both a P500VR without the "connected" capability and an X model that offers it. Guess how many connected X models we've sold this season?
Zero.
Napoleon could have offered 2 models in the Prestige Pro series - a Classic Pro665 which would be the current model priced at $3899 with tariff -related price increase in the rear view mirror), and a new connected/smart version that would be at the $5199 price point.
Instead, the venerable Pro665 that we have known and loved for years will sleep with the fish.
So what does this mean for you, the grill shopper?
I'd buy a current Pro665 now.
'Knowing that grill companies look for pre-buy sales around October, and presuming that the new Napoleon Pro665 will be part of those deals, the current model should stay in the lineup until the end of September. That means if you want to grab this grill for less than $4000 (knowing it's heading over $5000 and will be saddled with too much tech) the time to act is NOW while they are still being produced.
