This is an outdoor kitchen we worked on which features all Alfresco outdoor kitchen components with the exception of an icemaker from U-line .
Here is an outdoor kitchen we completed this summer in Pelham Manor, NY. Moving from left to right you'll see the 15" Uline clear ice maker, then we have the 28" Alfresco outdoor refrigerator, then we move to the grill area which features a 42" Alfresco standard grill and a 42" low dry storage pantry from Alfresco. Finally on the right side we have the Alfresco AGBC30 30" sink and underneath Alfresco's 36" access doors.
What were the challenges in putting together this outdoor kitchen plan?
Looking at the picture two things stand out.
1 - the homeowner built this inside
2 - he didn't have a tremendous amount of space at his disposal
The space measures a tick above 9ft in length. While this is a nice width for an outdoor kitchen, this homeowner wanted many components and the ones he wanted were on the larger side. To conserve space they could have gone with a 30" or 36" grill, a 15" or 24" refrigerator, and a 14" sink, a strategy that would have grabbed them an extra several feet. But due to the way they cook and predicted they would entertain, they needed to go with the larger sizes
The other issue was having the build out under a roof. This necessitated using an outdoor hood that would need to be installed through an angled ceiling. And because the hood was not up against a wall, it needed to be an island hood which further narrowed the choices. We were going to use a Vent-a-hood for this application but the homeowner opted to source his own lower-priced alternative.
What I Like About This Outdoor Kitchen
1 - in a relatively tight space he was able to get many of the fundamental pieces in - the grill, dry storage, fridge and sink
2 - this is truly a 12-month all season outdoor kitchen. And not only because he has a roof over the space. The doors leading into the indoor kitchen grant easy access for all of the conveniences that the indoor kitchen provides. More storage, more food, and a quick getaway if things get too cold.
3 - Speaking of dealing with the cold, if you look at the top right of the picture you will see an object above the sliding doors. That is one of his Infratech heaters pointing right at the grill area. So no matter what the temperature is, the homeowner should be able to grill in comfort.
What I Would Change About This Outdoor Kitchen
1 - I don't like the placement of the icemaker on the left side. it is too close to the refrigerator on the right side. You cannot open these simultaneously. With the indoor kitchen connected to the outdoor space, I may have scrapped the icemaker, installed a trash drawer system, and used ice from the indoor kitchen.
2 - There isn't a lot of countertop space. I may have considered dropping the refrigerator to a 24" model, bumping the Alfresco 42" grill to a 36" and dropping the Alfresco sink from a 30" to a 24" . These changes would another 1.5 feet to the island.
